Birds
While wandering around on the rocks near Rat Beach, I came
upon this group of gulls.  As I approach, the one on the left was
seemingly "reading the riot act" to his companions.  When I got
near, he turned his attention to me.

The one on the right, also focused on this new, unknown visitor, in
sort of a "thanks for showing up" way.  The Alph Male keep this up
for quite a time, allowing me several good images of his tonsils.
This is my Birds page.  These subjects are tough.....birds have this incredible escape
mechanism....Flying!

I always enjoy the "hunt", but am often disappointed in the day's results.  Many times, early morning or
late in the day are the best times.  Not only because of the quality of the light, but the birds are more
inclined to be a subject as well.
Screaming Gull
Sandpiper
This lonely Sandpiper was out for a leisurely stroll, near the
dawn.  He was in no hurry, ...just seamed to be thinking about the
day ahead.

Wish I had those legs!  ( the knees bend backwards!....well, so
do mine, kinda)
I was on the beach, one night, waiting
for yet another magnificent California
sunset, when this seagull landed in
front of me, spread his wings and, I
think, began to pray.  His honor to the
sun, that which makes his life possible.

Sorry.....

There are two versions of this, one with
the colors pumped (right) to match how
I saw it,  and one as it came out of the
camera (left).

I love the detail of the water, around his
feet and in the backwater, forground.
And the translucences of the feathers.

Sandpiper 2
Here's the mate to the above print.

A little more purposeful of stride, and less interested in the
scenery, but none-the-less, still enjoying a walk on the beach.
PairaDux
A Duck couple, early morning, on a mountain lake.

Light and reflection.  (you will notice a recurring theme, here) make this a
favorite of mine.  It's such a shame that the female member outshines the
male by so much.
The Poser
This guy just stood there, starring at me.  I thought he was saying "what in
the word are you doing here now, and what do you want with me".

Anyway, he stayed in this position for several minutes allowing me to take
several images with the waves in the background at various ebbs and
flows.....this one captures my imagination best.
Gulls Resting
Sunning Gulls
These two really belong together.  Although
these were not taken at the same time or in
the same place, they seem to go together, to
me.

I really like the little disco move by the third
gull in the lower image.

I also think the reflection of the birds in the
upper image is just right....

Not so good in color, so only B&W offered.
Gull
It's rare to get a chance to photograph a bird in flight from above!  At
least for me, since I can't fly.

I found a steep, cliff-side perch, where the ocean had actually
undermined it, so looking straight down, I still saw water.

It was then just wait for something interesting to come by..  Finally
something did.

I am amazed by the wingspan of this seagull.  Gliding on the rising air,
as the sea breeze met the cliff face, this bird surveyed the choppy sea
below.
